Joe Verbrugge: Pen & Ink, Oil Painting, Sculpture
Joe, currently 83-year-old, has led a life defined by resilience, determination, and creativity. Graduating as a medical doctor from the University of Michigan in 1966, he answered his early calling to heal and help others. His journey took him from the battlefields of Vietnam as a military medic to prestigious roles at St. Luke’s Denver and Presbyterian St. Luke’s, where he was Chief of Anesthesia, Regional Director of Anesthesia, and President of the Colorado Society of Anesthesia.
Amidst personal challenges and legal battles in 1993, including the loss of a patient and a temporary license suspension, Joe survived the experience and ultimately was found not guilty in the high-profile life changing case.
Following the completion of his work as a doctor and anesthesiologist, he shifted gears to real estate and his childhood passion for art. He returned to college attending art classes at Arapahoe Community College.
Despite a stroke at 79, he continues his march to get his artwork into hands of collectors.
Today, a realtor with Home Smart Realty, and father of four, Joe’s journey stands as a testament to embracing change and pursuing passions.
